HOW FEAR AFFECTS OUR LEARNING

Everyday you have many activities to do and a lot of dreams to wish to be true. The fact is, that we are in a constant struggle for life. For instance sometimes this struggle is not always obtained for many reasons. Fear for example, can make disappear everything you do, if you do not know how to control it. Fear can limit your knowledge, ideas and words. It can stop your sense in such way that you could lose notion of time. In our case, as English students, fear is a big enemy we face constantly.

To be an insecure student delays the process of learning.

English, for us, is a duty we need to advance in our career, but English is not that easy as it seems. We say right now that it is as easy as at the beginning, but while we advance it is more complex. However you can prove that while you know more, there is more to know. There is more grammatical rules and vast vocabulary and knowledge of the language in general.

As English students, our effort is double; because we are in a country which speaks official language is Spanish and when get out of the classroom. Everybody speaks Spanish.

Therefore, teachers should not demand a Latin student to speak English perfectly. Moreover Latin people are not able to pronounce words like native speaker. For instance, we can understand a German, a Dutch, or a Japanese person speaking English but when we hear a native speaker, we feel lost, we feel fear...

Additionally, Germanic languages such as German, English, Dutch, and so on, have different kinds of sounds, because they have sixteen vowel sounds. And is far as we know, Spanish has five vowel sounds.

English pronunciation is one of the reasons that make Latin students feel insecure or afraid of learning English.

Sometime teachers require us to pronounce words as just they pronounce them and do not take into account that there have different pronunciations than English has.

In summary, fear can destroy our dreams that keep us striving the projects for instance you have to look the real reason to fear it and the adequate help working everyday to solve this feeling paralyze your brain an your goal.

Do not permit that fears wins you and lose everything that is important in your life.

HOMELESS

Having a house is not a matter of joke in our lives; everybody needs to have one sooner or later. We need to have our personal space, which we can share with another person or not. This private place we can decorate and take care of , means freedom but also responsibility and hard work. I think nobody is mature enough until living alone.

However renting or buying a house is not that easy. As a matter of fact , in our country having a house has become in a quite difficult task since salaries are lower and lower and the house prices are higher and higher. Even though there has been certain improvement in the people salaries, there has also been and increase in life costs. I know nothing about economy issues but I think it is pretty that if we need 900000 Bs for living and salaries are yet 400000 Bs then the problem hasn't nearly been solved.

Nevertheless, I don't want to get lost of a point I want to talk about and it is "invasions" the smart solution the government has given to the people for getting their houses. Since it is legal, people have been building houses everywhere all over the country. Even tough I really understand this people, and indeed I have friends living in this way, I think it is not a good idea, solving the problem by creating another one.

I think our president has strategically washed his hands of the problem instead of solving it. Populism is what apparently he's going after at any price, and since people hasn't realized the lack of respect invasions are for themselves, his reaching what he needs and wants: time and as a direct result more power.

If the government really wanted to do the right thing, I think he should help people building their houses by giving them appropriate locations, well thought and planed accessible ways of getting them.

On the other hand, there're always people who feel they're smarter than everybody else and take lands for selling them later and make a business of the real necessity of homeless thus, meanwhile the homeless are living among four aluminium walls, usurers are negotiating "their lands", which by the way, they took from someone else. It's really an unfair nonsense, isn't it?

And what about human being rights? We have the right of being treated with respect, and living in a decent way is a sample of it. By living in an aluminium "house" with a nearly done floor without running water, electricity and all those services which are needed for living in a sane way, people are forgetting their respect for themselves.

Furthermore, if invaders found the way of obtaining services, then that would mean another problem for the government since those citizens would be living in the margin of organised society, therefore, they wouldn’t pay any contribution to the state, i.e.: they would be an extra weight for the city.

FAITH, A CONCRETE COMPROMISE OF LIFE, NOT AN ABSTRACT CONCEPT.

It’s Sunday morning, early, in the celebration of the Holy Mass, in the middle of a devout crowd of parishioners, while the priest is preaching, ten men in black with their faces hidden to anyone’s sight appear from nowhere. They were armed like the E.L.N. soldiers. One of them, looking at everyone there, cries out: “All that who is ready to get a bullet on his head for love to Christ, stay here!”. Immediately, faster than a breath, people left the temple making a big noise trying to “save their lives”, remaining in that place a few persons, the priest and some ministers, being they the only fifteen people left in the temple. After all the disorder and the clang, the same man speaks lower saying: “father, you can continue. We beg your pardon”.

Interesting, isn’t it? In that place stood only those who were willing to “lose their lives” for That in whom they believed. This story certainly questions us. Supposing we were there, had we stayed indeed? We can’t say.

Usually, we talk about faith like something inherent to us with no big importance. Moreover, we proclaim we believe and love That in whom we call our Savior but we are so cold, so distant with everything that surrounds us, with the fellow. It seems we consider faith a good subject to talk about and to make plain references, joined to a poor experience that doesn’t transcend the simple talking. Faith, my brother, is not something on the air, is not something abstract, but something concrete, and it must be “seemed”, “perceived”. The fact is that we don’t want to get involved, to compromise oneself. Compromise? With what? With the whole world and what’s on it!

I get mad each time I hear people calling themselves devouted; they presume of being in many religious meetings, they always know about everything, specially about God but they are the opposite, so indolent, so insensitive; they are the same their whole lifetime. This type of people never change, they don’t “convert”. They and the people in the beginning of this essay are alike, those who were in Mass so devouted and merciful but, when the time of testimony arrives, they vanish, disappear, they just quit.

It all seems to be caused by ignorance and “confort”, besides other things. On one side, is ignorance what damages the conscience and doesn’t let anyone leave mediocrity and fanaticism. Those people keep obstinately on their idea or concept of faith and refuse opening deeply in a more authentic way, getting away of imbuing of Grace and the overwhelming love of the Father. And on the other side is confort what makes a person who suffers not to be better, losing the will to make the Good and reach the joy and satisfaction necessary to be happy. God wants to make us happy, but not the way we expect when we are ignorant and lazy.

We must be aware that faith is the fact of believing with complete knowledge and understanding who is the object of our creed, of our hope, this is, God. Faith needs of intelligence, of reasons, that’s why the holy bishop Augustine of Hippo refers in relation to this: “Fides quaerens intellectum”, which means: “Faith requires of intellect”. With all this, I want to reiterate that the fact of believing demands a compromise with mankind and the entire creation from the conscience we have about all God did and has done for us in benefit of our redemption, to make us be “like” him. Therefore, I can’t be a blind man and an indolent person with al surrounds me, all the opposite! I have to burn and get it on!

When we talk about believing, we better prove faith with our testimony. Don’t we ever presume of being more than everybody else in relation of religion. We may be the worst people! Let’s give our best testimony to those who don’t believe and need a lot of love and attention, just so that they will feel God’s love and we had accomplished our mission: to preach the love of God.
