- Documentarse. Planificar. Esquematizar. Redactar y redactar.

Maybe this phrase could be familiar to you: “I cannot stand an unfair teacher”. No doubt you feel the same way. Many reasons explain why sometimes students cannot get along with teachers. Students say that their teachers have a sort or favoritism. Some youths are upset when they get low grades for what they feel is high-grade work. When teachers demand of us effort, enthusiasm and responsibility; we cannot always fulfill their expectations.
However, teachers are far from being infallible. They have their share of quirks, problems and prejudices. Even teachers stumble many times, we are not perfect. As human beings we tend to make mistakes and we cannot avoid them. One of these common mistakes is the special favor conferred to teacher’s pet. In the classroom few students have these kinds of privileges. Others get angry when special attention or preferential treatment is given to the teacher’s pets.
On the other hand, there is a question which can open all our doubts about this particular preference with some students. Would a teacher pay more attention on the student who studies hard or treats him or her with respect? True, it may gall us when we see these ‘special students’ get more attention than us. Besides, it may be a good idea to take advantage of time in order to be a bit more diligent by ourselves. Don’t be jealous or upset if some diligent student is the teacher’s pet!
In some cases, teachers take the best of the best from us because they want to improve our creativity, ability and knowledge. But sometimes we are so blind. We do not want to see their preoccupations. Students try to make the situation worse when they begin a war with their teachers.
Since I was in high school some of my classmates used to make jokes about our teachers. They did it again, again, again…At the end our teachers snapped. Now then, students criticize teachers, but they are not exact in their argumentation. They exaggerate a bad behavior which maybe does not fit into teachers. Some of them say: “that teacher is hateful, strict and bored”, but many times students are responsible of the war in the classroom. In conclusion, the hostile teacher is often molded by his students.
Nevertheless, if we witness student’s cruelty, do not be surprise to harvest a hostile teacher. We have to keep always in our mind the golden rule which is written in the Bible: “All the things, therefore, wish to be done to you, have to be wished, likewise to others”. We should refuse to participate in classroom pranks. We have to be attentive to what the teacher says. We also must be cooperative. Perhaps in time, he will feel a little less hostile, at least toward his or her students.
I took into account these Bible’s words, and I got as a result a good relationship with my teachers. A good communication can make of our classroom a pleasant environment. If you do not have a good relationship with your teacher, you have to follow these practical advices. First of all, try not to give your teacher a cause of complaint. In fact, try to be friendly. Maybe your persistent politeness may change his opinion of you.
Finally, you and your teachers can enjoy a good relationship if there is respect between each other. You cannot be an immature person who is always acting in a bad way. But if it is not possible, take for sure that there would be trouble.

Why is always there something above human beings? Something that is sometimes difficult to believe in. Most people believe something that they can’t see or even imagine. In fact, the way people believe in God it’s totally different between them, so, how is God? Why can’t we believe in something clear or palpable to make our beliefs more accurate? Why can’t we believe in human beings?
In some cultures the power of nature was a reason to believe in. Changes in the weather, climate and even stars. Then the light age appeared and human started to see things in a different way. They questioned everything they could to show human being’s nature in a clearer way. Religions weren’t the exception and these kind of questions appeared: what do we do here and why? Why is loving so important? Why is important believing in God? Therefore, many religions came from the first ones.
Now, I wonder what religion we can believe in. There are many religions, so much in what to believe in and many people who say that their religions is the only one which will bring us or make us see what we are looking forward to.
About two months ago I watched a woman dying on a TV program. She died because she needed a blood transfusion but her religion didn’t allow her to do that. Is it fair? Is so important a religion that it doesn’t matter if human beings die for it? I don’t understand! Yet…
When I was a child, about 10, my mother asked me to do the first communion and i refused to do it, of course she wanted an explanation about my decision but i didn’t give her one, because I was scared she punished me, because one of the pictures i had about God was as the punisher, if I do something that is wrong for the rest of the people who believe in him i will be punished or sent straight to the hell, that’s scary for a child, isn’t it?
I think that the reasons i refused my family’s religion only concern to me and everyone have to find their ones in order to make their beliefs unbreakable.
I don’t belong to any religion, does it mean that i am a bad person?

A week ago I was sitting listening to a report in a “Speak Up!” magazine, when three students greeted each other near me. They talked among themselves and said: Hi my friend! – What’s up?. I smiled a little, but then my ears hurt when I heard: Todo bien mi panita - ¿Cómo está la geva ? Chévere chamo...Then. No hablen de ella que no me cae, Shut up now!, the girl said.
In 2001, I took my first English course out of U.P.E.L. What I learnt first in that course wasn’t a lesson, but I had a meeting with all the teachers. They said what were the disadvantages we’d have when learning English in that place. To study it as a foreign language was one of those disadvantages. Something similar happens here. I mean that out of our AUFINS everybody speaks Spanish therefore we can’t get native accents, idioms and new expressions easier. On the other hand, to study English as a second language would let us the opportunity to interact with native speakers in a real English environment. I think it depends on what kind of students we are. By that time, the meeting was important because it was the first time I heard about it.
Nowadays, for many students it is boring when a teacher advises them about building a new and different English world in order to improve their own English. I began here at U.P.E.L in 2003. Since then, I’ve heard teachers talking about those disadvantages that my old teachers taught me in my small town. Most English teachers here care about their students. I have seen some of them a little angry trying to make us realize that we need to practice. Once I heard from one of them this: “ No practice, no learning- no learning no improvement, so if you don’t want to improve yourselves get out of this university”. We can go out and find a good pedagogic method with the best teachers and learn English, but if we keep our self-esteem low, we’ll never know what is to communicate in English. If we want we can, if not, no matter the university or institute’s quality we’d never learn.
Close your eyes take a long breath and imagine Mr. Rico, his cooks, Mrs. Ortiz, popular “Milca” and her co-workers, I mean, all of them talking in English. Now build a big wall around our program. I invite you to go inside that magic world talking in English more than ten hours trying to live, hear, eat, feel and think, but in English.
I must tell you that the author loves Spanish. I’m sure you all too but we have to see the real life and realize we are learning a foreign language. So we must build our own English universe. I write we must because it is the best way to succeed. Students cannot pretend to get always ten only by taking fifteen hours in class per week. The worst is that some of us only talk for eight or less minutes from those fifteen hours per week.
When we see we failed in some tests our vocabulary increases just to start saying, in English of course: We have the worst teachers! I do not understand him! He is crazy! I do not know why she is teaching here! I know more than he does! She hates me, so I will not succeed! Finally, we decide to leave the career, but WHY? The answer to that question is, English Sucks and they don’t know anything about teaching. I do not know what you think my dear partners, but I have seen how some teachers, not the English ones, who prefer to teach English students than students from other programs. That happens because when we are taught in this program to learn the language, we grow ethically too.
We always think that to let an advanced student to listen to us is embarrassing. I have talked to some of them and they neither punched me nor ate me. Maybe I hurt their ears when I started talking like a parrot. It does not matter. Some weeks ago in a course that was called Shall we read? It was amazing to share some words with Mr. Carlson. It was great to have the opportunity to hear advanced students’ ideas, point of views and their meekness. The most important of all was to experience how through the course I could lift my self-esteem and the little fear I had disappeared. Imagine! Only one classmate and I were from English five. The rest were teachers and the best advanced students. I was so nervous when I had to say a poem with some others students besides me the first day.
To have a good Self-esteem doesn’t mean to beat someone else with bad words or to say we are the best. Self-esteem is to realize we can be better today than yesterday but worse than tomorrow. It is to know our capacities and skills and to accept our weaknesses. When a teacher talks about it we think it is true. Then that information and advices our teachers gave us just come out of our brains. We waste time gossiping, critizising and arguing with all people who pass by us. So I am writing to invite you to continue gossiping, discussing, arguing, greeting, smiling, seeing, hearing, walking, tasting, crying and even breathing but please in English!!!

Uncertainty has always been part of human tragedy. We don’t know who we are, where we come from or why we are here.
This tragedy is the same of an orphan kid who tries to find out who his parents are. He just can imagine tons of things about this problem but maybe he will never know anything for sure.
We, as orphans of the world are lost in the middle of nowhere, and we suffer. We suffer since the moment we are conscious of our existence, since the moment we left the animal world. Are human beings the evolution or a superior race? Other animals are unable to feel hate, fear or sadness. Well, they don’t feel love, joy or passion.
But the real fact is that we had no choice, nobody asked us if we wanted to be human, we like or not that is our condition, with all its positive and negative aspects.
Man is the only animal that’s not menaced by other animals; we have defeated all our predators. But once we did it we realized that the enemy was closer than it appeared. We were eating ourselves from the inside. Man is the only animal that practices “autocanibalism”.
And then we find our painkiller: religion. A way to escape, to get away all our suffering, a new way to lie to ourselves. What a beautiful lie! Religion has an irresistible gimmick, they change the world we are living in for another beyond the material things where eternal glory is possible. That’s why religions are so successful, they are an eternal promise. But a dogma that denies live itself only can be described by a single word: perverse.
But what a lot of people consider as the opposite of religion, it not different at all. Yes, I’m talking about science. A new dogma has arrived to save us! The monster seems to be even more stupid than his friend religion. It dresses some bullshit in a sophisticated costume. Science tries to tell us that it is discovering the world, but scientists are a blind and dumb species, they can’t make a distinction between “discovering” and “inventing”. They are so focused on numbers and formulas that they don’t stop and thing that maybe nature is a complete chaos.
But if religion and science failed, what is the other way to deal with our tragedy? Art. Art is the most perfect expression of freedom; of creation and destruction. Through arts life appears in his whole and complex form, with all his beauty and ugliness.
Uncertainty is linked inherently to the human condition, but this fact is not always negative. We have to embrace the moment and, who knows? Maybe pain is just and illusion.

Since I was a kid I have always heard that the family is the oldest institution on earth and throughout history, strong families have helped to make strong societies and that is the best arrangement for bringing up children to be mature adults. However, as time went on I have seen family is changing -sad to say not for better.
In many countries most families consist of a father, a mother, and children, but other families have become increasingly common in recent years- the single- parent family, and the family whose parents are not living together for one reason or another. Many, therefore, think that take care of their elderly family members is a burden rather than as a duty or a privilege. Divorce is becoming increasingly common and many young teenagers have children without getting married. Reports from
around the world tell of millions of homeless children roaming the streets; many are escaping from abusive homes or are cast out by families that cannot support them.
There’s no doubt the family is in crisis, but why is the family in crisis? Many people think family crisis lies in the fact that nowadays many women have to go to work. Other point is the present moral breakdown. However, I think although we are living this family crisis, there are many ways to solve this problem.
A happy family is a heaven of safety and security. Imagine the ideal family for a moment. During their evening meal, parents sit with their children and discuss the events of the day. Children chatter excitedly as they tell their father and mother about what happened at school, the relaxing time spent together refreshes everyone for another day in the world outside. In a happy family, a child knows that his father and mother will take care of him when he gets sick, perhaps taking turns at his bedside through the night, knows that he can go to his mother or father with the problems of his young life and get advice and support. Yes, the child feels safe, no matter how trouble-filled the outside world may be.
When children grow up, they usually get married and have family of their own.” A person realizes how indebted he is to his parents when he has a child of his own” says an Oriental proverb. With a deep of gratitude and love, the grown children try to make his own family happy and they also look after their elderly parents, who delight in the company of the grandchildren. Perhaps at this point you are thinking: ´well I love my family, but it is not like the one just described´. If you are thinking that, ask yourself this question. Is there a secret of family happiness?
You only have the answer and if you think and look inside yourself the beautiful feeling that is love and of course look for God who has observed family life since mankind’s beginning and even knows the problems that can arise and has given counsel for solving them. I am sure you will find the secret. I did it and now I enjoy sharing with my family, if you apply them, you will know the secret of family happiness too.

In all our life we are constantly living or experiencing unforgettable situation which can produce happiness or sadness to us. For sure those situations can be in our mind for a short or long time, on even more forever. For example, we could ever remember our first kiss, or when we made love for the first time or even more when a relative dies.
In my case, I Have lived many different moments in which I have felt happiness and sadness. But there are only two moments which I will never forget. The first one, that I call “the happiest day in my life”, was when my first daughter was born. Her name is Yenmilys and she makes my feel very happy because she is a very intelligent and beautiful daughter. Besides she is a good student and a wonderful person . I an very proud of her and the best of all is that I get along with her and she loves me.
I consider that to have a good relationships with our children is very important for us and therefore for the society.
Although I an living al these things with Yenmilys. I recently had a new illusion:
My wife was pregnant and I was going to have my second daughter. However, my wife had a problem when she was only 6 and a half months, and she had to be operated because my new illusion, I mean my second daughter, was going to be born. I was really worried about then. Doctors told me that my wife was fine, but my daughter was to delicated. The fact was that I had to go to the hospital for 8th days to visit my daughter and ask doctors about her health. They gave me good news the 8th day when they told me: “Your daughter is some weight”. I was very happy in that moment and felt a big hope to see my daughter at home. But the following when I went to the hospital with my wife, a doctor told us that our baby had died the day before. We couldn’t believe that after they mentioned all what they had told me the day before. I think if my daughter hadn’t been as they told me, they should have told me the truth. I swear that day has been “the saddest day in my life”.
When something life this happens, we always try to look for a culprit. In my case I was wondering: “Were the doctors the culprit? Were we the culprit? Or was the destiny? I am not really sure about that. I prefer to think that it was god’s will because I believe in him, but I just ask him to make me stronger to stand this pain.
Since that day I am not the same person. I have tried to live with this pain but it’s very difficult and I feel as if a part of me was stolen from me and I had a big hole in my heart, and even more when I had dreamt with my two daughters playing in a garden, running in a park and bathing in a river together. But all this is part of life and I know I will be fine soon. So, what is true is that all we have is an illusion, our life, in fact, is an illusion and all what we want are illusion too, but the worst of all is that we never know when our illusions could disappear. That’s why we have to be ready for every thing in life.

Are we influenced by fashion?
Long ago, a group of people cerated a tendency that since its apperance has caused commotion all over the world, that is not another thing that fashion, which is the style and design of clothes that are popular at a certain time. A lot of people have admitted taht they follow it just for being in touch with the styles, but sometimes those "styles" imply changes, not only in the way we dress, but also in our behaviors, thoughts and feelings.
Lately, it seems as if all of us have become in certain way in fashio´s victims, because everybody wants to dress fashionable and wants to look like the people on T.V. The only problem about it is not that people are acting as sheeps of the same barnyard, it is deeper than that, the persons are able to do anything to look good. We can see that many teenagers or even worse kids are suffering some feeding disorder such as bulimai or anorexia, these are illneses in which the person vomits the food or refuses to eat and loses so much weight that their lives may be in danger.
Maybe you think that people who do something like that are stupids, but the answer about what they do it is very simple, in our society one of the most important aspects about people is their physical apperance, it is very common that fat people or those who don`t have the beauty stereotypes of the models and artists are treated very rude, we have to confess that in one moment of our lives we have acted in bad way about a person or we have been treated like that for others, haven´t we?.
However, it is not our fault at all, we are just taking into account what the T.V and the magazines tell us. Everyday we watch a lot of T.V commercials about magic pills that can make us lose weight, in these commercial they try to sell their product giving to the audience a horrible image about people with overweight, who appear with sad faces and a very ugly apperance as if being fat were a curse.
On the other hand, all the magazines are full of articles that show the last tendencies and of course models with perfect bodies. This influences us to try to be like those persons, for that reason we are so obssesed with the way we dress and look.
Frequently, we can see that everybody wants to have a plastic surgery in order to have the perfect body. In my opinion that is silly, because those persons are going to show something that they are not, and everything that they get is going to be just for their image and not for the person they really are.
Anyway, we are forgeting the most important thing about life, that is the inner beauty which is the one that never changes, we can get old; get fat; have a plastic surgery, but inside we are always going to be the same person. The opposite happens with fashion, maybe what is nice today it won´t be tomorrow, so we have to take it easy and be concious that all of us are different and if we are not like the boys and girls on T.V or magazines it is O.K, because those pesons live for their bodies, but we have to work hard to earn our money, for that reason we don´t have to be so worried about fashion.
If you don´t drees fashionable, it is not big deal, because fashion doesn´t give you happiness, you can dress with t-shirts and blue jeans all the time and you can be successful and happy too, so why are you going to pay so much attention to that?. The apperel doesn´t say the kind of person you are, there are people who dress really nice but, they are very cruel and unhappy, for that reason we have to think about it. It is better to be humble and happy than fashionable and empty.
Change this craze is in our hands, because nobody can bring us down if we are confidence about ourselves and the person we want to be, or do you prefer to be a person who follows what others do or wear to feel O.K with yourself? somehow that is your choice but, is it worthy?.

Unfortunately, young women have completely lost their values. Because we can see with more frequency that when they get pregnant most of them immediately have two choices in their mind: to have the baby or to abort him, this situation is more common than what we can imagine.
But, what do you think about abortion? well, most people try not to think about it. They prefer to avoid the overwhelming, horrible reality; But abortion is an intentional violent act that kills an unborn baby.
It is incredible that a mother could be able to kill her own baby. Only try to think for a moment, what is that woman thinking when she is deciding to abort. Of course , that moment should be horrible for some of them , but the worst thing is that there are others that don't care about it.
It is a terrible situation, it seems like if those persons haven't been created by god. Because the debate about abortion, is a really debate about our nature as human creatures. We were made by God and it is from him that we derive our worth.
Women argue many reasons that motivate them to have an abortion; for instance the fact that they don't have a stable couple, economic matters, problems with their families. None of those reasons is a good reason to abort a baby, all of them are excuses to escape responsabilities and embarrasing situations, in some cases.
Howewer, there are some cases in which the abortion is produced espontaneously because of problems in the woman's reproductive system that don't allow the baby to grow inside the belly. It means that it is not the woman's fault.
It is ironic, but generally in those cases the woman really wants to have the baby and when they abort him, they cry and they feel bad. Meanwhile those who have the capability to have a baby , abort him. What a strange is life!
It is understandable that there are difficult moments in our lives and with a baby the problems could increase. But why don't people think about those problems or consequences when they are having sex without any protection . That's the point !. B ecause the problem is not to have sex but to have sex without using appropiate contraceptive methods. And I say appropiate because there are some of them which are not so good

Everyday you have many activities to do and a lot of dreams to wish to be true. The fact is, that we are in a constant struggle for life. For instance sometimes this struggle is not always obtained for many reasons. Fear for example, can make disappear everything you do, if you do not know how to control it. Fear can limit your knowledge, ideas and words. It can stop your sense in such way that you could lose notion of time. In our case, as English students, fear is a big enemy we face constantly.
To be an insecure student delays the process of learning.
English, for us, is a duty we need to advance in our career, but English is not that easy as it seems. We say right now that it is as easy as at the beginning, but while we advance it is more complex. However you can prove that while you know more, there is more to know. There is more grammatical rules and vast vocabulary and knowledge of the language in general.
As English students, our effort is double; because we are in a country which speaks official language is Spanish and when get out of the classroom. Everybody speaks Spanish.
Therefore, teachers should not demand a Latin student to speak English perfectly. Moreover Latin people are not able to pronounce words like native speaker. For instance, we can understand a German, a Dutch, or a Japanese person speaking English but when we hear a native speaker, we feel lost, we feel fear...
Additionally, Germanic languages such as German, English, Dutch, and so on, have different kinds of sounds, because they have sixteen vowel sounds. And is far as we know, Spanish has five vowel sounds.
English pronunciation is one of the reasons that make Latin students feel insecure or afraid of learning English.
Sometime teachers require us to pronounce words as just they pronounce them and do not take into account that there have different pronunciations than English has.
In summary, fear can destroy our dreams that keep us striving the projects for instance you have to look the real reason to fear it and the adequate help working everyday to solve this feeling paralyze your brain an your goal.
Do not permit that fears wins you and lose everything that is important in your life.

Having a house is not a matter of joke in our lives; everybody needs to have one sooner or later. We need to have our personal space, which we can share with another person or not. This private place we can decorate and take care of , means freedom but also responsibility and hard work. I think nobody is mature enough until living alone.
However renting or buying a house is not that easy. As a matter of fact , in our country having a house has become in a quite difficult task since salaries are lower and lower and the house prices are higher and higher. Even though there has been certain improvement in the people salaries, there has also been and increase in life costs. I know nothing about economy issues but I think it is pretty that if we need 900000 Bs for living and salaries are yet 400000 Bs then the problem hasn't nearly been solved.
Nevertheless, I don't want to get lost of a point I want to talk about and it is "invasions" the smart solution the government has given to the people for getting their houses. Since it is legal, people have been building houses everywhere all over the country. Even tough I really understand this people, and indeed I have friends living in this way, I think it is not a good idea, solving the problem by creating another one.
I think our president has strategically washed his hands of the problem instead of solving it. Populism is what apparently he's going after at any price, and since people hasn't realized the lack of respect invasions are for themselves, his reaching what he needs and wants: time and as a direct result more power.
If the government really wanted to do the right thing, I think he should help people building their houses by giving them appropriate locations, well thought and planed accessible ways of getting them.
On the other hand, there're always people who feel they're smarter than everybody else and take lands for selling them later and make a business of the real necessity of homeless thus, meanwhile the homeless are living among four aluminium walls, usurers are negotiating "their lands", which by the way, they took from someone else. It's really an unfair nonsense, isn't it?
And what about human being rights? We have the right of being treated with respect, and living in a decent way is a sample of it. By living in an aluminium "house" with a nearly done floor without running water, electricity and all those services which are needed for living in a sane way, people are forgetting their respect for themselves.
Furthermore, if invaders found the way of obtaining services, then that would mean another problem for the government since those citizens would be living in the margin of organised society, therefore, they wouldn’t pay any contribution to the state, i.e.: they would be an extra weight for the city.

It’s Sunday morning, early, in the celebration of the Holy Mass, in the middle of a devout crowd of parishioners, while the priest is preaching, ten men in black with their faces hidden to anyone’s sight appear from nowhere. They were armed like the E.L.N. soldiers. One of them, looking at everyone there, cries out: “All that who is ready to get a bullet on his head for love to Christ, stay here!”. Immediately, faster than a breath, people left the temple making a big noise trying to “save their lives”, remaining in that place a few persons, the priest and some ministers, being they the only fifteen people left in the temple. After all the disorder and the clang, the same man speaks lower saying: “father, you can continue. We beg your pardon”.
Interesting, isn’t it? In that place stood only those who were willing to “lose their lives” for That in whom they believed. This story certainly questions us. Supposing we were there, had we stayed indeed? We can’t say.
Usually, we talk about faith like something inherent to us with no big importance. Moreover, we proclaim we believe and love That in whom we call our Savior but we are so cold, so distant with everything that surrounds us, with the fellow. It seems we consider faith a good subject to talk about and to make plain references, joined to a poor experience that doesn’t transcend the simple talking. Faith, my brother, is not something on the air, is not something abstract, but something concrete, and it must be “seemed”, “perceived”. The fact is that we don’t want to get involved, to compromise oneself. Compromise? With what? With the whole world and what’s on it!
I get mad each time I hear people calling themselves devouted; they presume of being in many religious meetings, they always know about everything, specially about God but they are the opposite, so indolent, so insensitive; they are the same their whole lifetime. This type of people never change, they don’t “convert”. They and the people in the beginning of this essay are alike, those who were in Mass so devouted and merciful but, when the time of testimony arrives, they vanish, disappear, they just quit.
It all seems to be caused by ignorance and “confort”, besides other things. On one side, is ignorance what damages the conscience and doesn’t let anyone leave mediocrity and fanaticism. Those people keep obstinately on their idea or concept of faith and refuse opening deeply in a more authentic way, getting away of imbuing of Grace and the overwhelming love of the Father. And on the other side is confort what makes a person who suffers not to be better, losing the will to make the Good and reach the joy and satisfaction necessary to be happy. God wants to make us happy, but not the way we expect when we are ignorant and lazy.
We must be aware that faith is the fact of believing with complete knowledge and understanding who is the object of our creed, of our hope, this is, God. Faith needs of intelligence, of reasons, that’s why the holy bishop Augustine of Hippo refers in relation to this: “Fides quaerens intellectum”, which means: “Faith requires of intellect”. With all this, I want to reiterate that the fact of believing demands a compromise with mankind and the entire creation from the conscience we have about all God did and has done for us in benefit of our redemption, to make us be “like” him. Therefore, I can’t be a blind man and an indolent person with al surrounds me, all the opposite! I have to burn and get it on!
When we talk about believing, we better prove faith with our testimony. Don’t we ever presume of being more than everybody else in relation of religion. We may be the worst people! Let’s give our best testimony to those who don’t believe and need a lot of love and attention, just so that they will feel God’s love and we had accomplished our mission: to preach the love of God.
